We started yesterday with Peter’s listening that mimics our own experiences. It showed us how quickly Peter shifted from hearing Jesus to hearing the storm. There is also another component: the enemy’s oldest strategy is still to make the wrong voice sound convincing.
The Snake’s Favourite Weapon
The enemy has never been very creative. In Eden, with Eve, he used words (Genesis 3). With Jesus in the wilderness, he used words (Matthew 4:1-11). With Peter, he used circumstances that produced fear in his mind. The battle has never been primarily about what is happening around you. It is about Whose voice you choose to believe about what is happening around you.
The Holy Spirit’s Noise-Cancelling Headphones
Modern headphones suppress or cancel outside noise, yet the Holy Spirit does something better. He amplifies God’s voice above competing voices. Therefore, when fear says, “You will never recover,” God says, “My grace is sufficient.”
When doubt says, “You are too small,” God says, “My strength is made perfect in weakness.”
When circumstances shout, “It’s impossible,” God whispers, “I am with you.”
And His whisper outweighs the storm.
As you go about living out your purpose today, pay attention to what you are repeatedly hearing. What podcasts, conversations, social media feeds, fears, memories, or assumptions are shaping your thinking? Because whatever you hear repeatedly eventually sounds true.
Faith grows when God’s Word becomes the loudest voice in the room. Doubt grows when every other voice gets the microphone. Peter walked on water because he heard Jesus, yet sank because he listened to the storm. The difference was not the water. The difference was the voice.
Remember: The storm that surrounds you is less important than the voice that guides you through it.
Prayer
Father, there are many voices competing for my attention. Help me to hear Your voice above the noise of fear, anxiety, criticism, and uncertainty. Let Your Word become louder than my circumstances and stronger than my doubts. Teach me to keep my eyes and ears fixed on Jesus. May my faith grow every time I hear Your promises. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
